What’s worse than sitting through 20 minutes of the most boring presentation? A worse thing is when the presentation is actually 40 minutes!  But what’s even worse is when you’re the one making the presentation! It’s time to stop being your own worst enemy!

Do you run your own business? Or are you responsible for “business development” in a larger company? It’s not possible to be successful in sales if you haven’t mastered the ability of making a strong, self confident presentation in front of a group of people you don’t know!

So you’re not in sales, but you need to work with clients, partners or bosses who can make or break your future. You also need to master the art of making a simple, but powerful presentation!

By popular demand, the Presentation Foundation workshop has now been divided into two sections so that you can focus on two very different skills! Take them separately, or one after the other to become an even more powerful speaker!

Part 1 – NON PowerPoint

The best PowerPoint presentations are made by people who can present even WITHOUT PowerPoint to prop them up! All the skills you use in making a NON PowerPoint presentation will help you when you add PowerPoint back in. But they will help you every time you need to make a short presentation. You don’t need to spend weeks to learn how to make a standalone presentation the way a pro does.

Course agenda:

Elevator Presentation – You have only a few minutes to make that crucial first impression, but how do you “pitch” yourself?  What do you say? What do you emphasize? What do you downplay? Creating and giving your Elevator Presentation is the best way to warm up and get started for the day.

Using Voice, Gesture & Enthusiasm to Paint a Picture – To get others to understand and agree with your ideas, there are important tools you should be using. By painting a picture of the possibilities, you can convince anyone to see your point! You’ll be able to sell snow to an Eskimo!

Creating Rapport with the Audience – Making a powerful connection with the audience is essential to get them to see your point of view. There are scientifically proven ways of creating this bond. When your audience empathizes with you, you can get them to walk on water! But do you know how?

Using Anecdotes will Mesmerize Your Listeners – We all have stories in our lives, and these stories add color to our presentations. Including a real-life story in your presentation isn’t easy. Adapting a real-life experience in order to make your point is also difficult, but it can be done!

The above “tricks of the trade” are easily learned in one day.  Participants in Part 1 will make four presentations during the day! Each will be professionally evaluated.
Part 2 – PowerPoint

Professional speakers rarely use PowerPoint, but in business today we’re all expected to give PPT presentations continuously. The crucial question is: How much do we put in the PPT, and how much do we present through the words we say?

PowerPoint is how business communicates. If you’re new to business, you’ll probably read your PowerPoint to your audience - and they’ll all wonder why you didn’t just send them the PPT in an email. PowerPoint should support your presentation, not be a substitute for it! Good presenters understand that Powerpoint is really just a “visual aid” and you should too!

NOTE: Since most people use PPT to give a presentation, they will assume that Part 1 isn’t necessary. We believe that all the skills used in Part 1 will seriously improve your skills when using PPT. It’s your choice, but please don’t register to attend only one workshop.

Course agenda:

Self Introduction – To warm-up in the morning, we’ll each make an impromptu self introduction to get the workshop started!

Company Introduction - You will have some homework to prepare ahead of time for this workshop. You’ll need to bring either a five page company introduction PPT, or five pages of a PPT presentation you’ve done recently. You’ll then present this before lunch. We’ll give you constructive feedback: what is weak, how to strengthen these weaknesses, and how the presentation should change to have more impact. You’ll have the chance to learn from the experiences of all the others in the workshop so that you don’t make the same mistakes!

Putting the POWER into Your PowerPoint Presentation - We’ll go over the twenty important rules for taking a basic presentation, and giving it the WOW it needs to truly impress your listeners. We’ll cover how you can deliver a presentation without reading the slides, deciding what to leave out and what to focus on, how to deliver the essential details your listeners will need after the presentation is over.

Participants will make three presentations during the day. In order to maximize learning, participants will evaluate one another and thereby learn from each others’ experiences. We’ll conduct “before” and “after” surveys so you can see where you’ve improved during the day, and what are the areas you need to continue working on into the future.
